An aviation network is being developed in Uganda

Ugandan authorities are considering a project to turn the Nyakisharara airfield near Mbarara into a full-fledged international airport, which should become a major transit hub for long-haul flights.
The new airport will be able to accommodate airliners plying between Asia and South America, which will turn the country into an important point for intercontinental flights. The construction plans appeared against the background of a steady increase in passenger traffic.
The country's main air harbor, Entebbe International Airport, served about 2.24 million international passengers in 2024. In 2023, this figure was 1.93 million.
Kampala hopes that the new airport will relieve the burden on Entebbe and strengthen the country's role in regional aviation. At the same time, the authorities are developing airfields in Hoim, Gulu and Kidepo, which should support the oil industry, tourism and cargo exports.
