Zimbabwe has introduced licensing of activities with cryptocurrency

Zimbabwe has introduced its first dedicated cryptocurrency regulations. Companies involved in buying, selling, transferring or safeguarding digital assets must now register annually with the central bank’s Financial Intelligence Unit and pay a $500 licence fee.
Operating without registration is now a criminal offence. The move comes as Sub-Saharan Africa received more than $205 billion in cryptocurrency transaction value between July 2024 and June 2025, according to Chainalysis’ Global Crypto Adoption Index.
