Zimbabwe and Zambia to build railway

Zimbabwe's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development Felix Mona and his Zambian counterpart Frank Tayali signed a memorandum of understanding on the development of the Lion's Den-Kafue railway line.
The 311-kilometer railway will include 16 stations and two marshalling yards.
The new route will be significantly shorter than the existing routes: 1,000 km shorter to the ports of South Africa and 500 km shorter to Dar es Salaam, which reduces logistical costs for regional trade.
The construction cost of this railway is projected to be 2.18 billion US dollars. It will run along the existing 94 km highway in Zambia and 217 km in Zimbabwe.
