Wool is Lesotho's main export commodity

Lesotho earned about $50 million in 2025 through the sale of wool and mohair, which have become one of the country's most valuable agricultural exports.
In the rural economy of Lesotho, sheep are more than livestock. savings accounts, investment portfolios and status symbols. Approximately 320,000 inhabitants (about 15% of the country) depend on sheep farming.
Wool and mohair are sold internationally through Port Elizabeth in South Africa, where the International Wool Textile Organisation testing centre is located.
