Wind farm to be built in Liberia

The wind farm construction project received broad support from the Liberian authorities during a meeting with developers and representatives of the Liberian Electric Power Corporation (LEC), which took place on April 6, 2026.
The project involves the construction of vertical axis wind turbines developed by the American company Prosto. This technology is suitable for the conditions of Liberia, as it works effectively even at low wind speeds.
Within 6-8 months after the start of construction, electricity generation can reach from 20 to 40 megawatts, and at the end of construction – 200 megawatts. The construction is scheduled to be completed in the third and fourth quarters of 2027.
The construction of the wind farm will be fully funded by private investors, without any upfront costs from the Government of Liberia or the LEC. The preliminary cost of the project is about $300 million.
