Uganda to modernize its airport

The African Development Bank Group allocates €155.99 million to upgrade Arua Airport, the regional capital of northwestern Uganda, which is located approximately 450 kilometers from Kampala. The region is rich in minerals and has great potential in agriculture, tourism, culture, trade, regional integration, and logistics.
The project includes the construction of a 3.5-kilometer paved runway, new taxiways and aprons, a passenger terminal capable of handling 700,000 passengers per year, and a cargo terminal capable of handling 25,000 tons of cargo per year. There will also be a new control tower, access roads, a car park, and modern security systems.
The project is expected to create around 500 construction jobs and more than 1,400 jobs in tourism, agriculture and trade. More than half a million people in the city and district of Arua will directly benefit from the project, while the neighboring vast West Nile region, home to over 3.3 million people, will benefit from improved transportation and investment opportunities.
