Uganda to launch two new satellites into space

Addressing members of parliament from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, President Yoweri Museveni announced that Uganda intends to launch two new satellites into space: one into a lower orbit to ensure safety and environmental monitoring, for example, to track deforestation, and the other for broadcasting.
The President of Uganda recalled that space exploration is not only about modern telecommunications technologies, but also strategic security, and called on African countries to develop joint space programs.
Uganda launched its first satellite, PearlAfricaSat-1, in 2022. The satellite was developed by Ugandan engineers Derrick Tebusweke, Boney Omara and Edgar Mujuni as part of the BIRDS-5 program at the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan.
