Tunisia and Libya are connected by a new sea route

On April 27, 2026, a ship with 407 empty containers on board docked in Zarzis, marking the launch of a regular sea line connecting the Tunisian ports of Zarzis and Rades with the ports of Gioia Tauro and Tripoli in Libya.
According to the Tunisian Ministry of Transport, the new route will reduce logistics costs due to shorter transit time and increase trade turnover between the two countries.
Dredging operations are planned in Tunisian ports next year, which will allow them to accommodate larger vessels.
