Transport projects in Africa will create millions of jobs
The second phase of the Priority Action Plan (PAP2) of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) is designed until 2030 and focuses on 69 projects.
According to experts, the construction, operation and maintenance of projects (PAP2) can generate an additional 15 million jobs. These are not only drivers and maintenance personnel, but also engineers, signaling technicians, air traffic controllers, logistics specialists, corridor managers etc.
For example, the modernization of the North-South Corridor, which comprises 16 projects across eight countries, will create 4.5 million direct jobs, and may also create about 130,000 indirect jobs in agribusiness, mining and trade.
