Togo will regulate the medicines
The Togolese government said Tuesday, Sept. 8, that it had adopted a decree creating the National Agency for the Regulation of Medicines and Other Healthcare Products and defining its mandate, structure and operations.
The new autonomous body is meant to strengthen market surveillance, pharmaceutical inspection, pharmacovigilance and quality control amid growing product diversification and more market players. It is also expected to support domestic pharmaceutical production and the country’s health sovereignty.
The creation of the agency follows similar efforts elsewhere in Africa to strengthen pharmaceutical market surveillance amid concerns over falsified or substandard products.
