The village of Sidi Bou Said has become a world heritage site
At the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which is taking place these days in Busan, South Korea, the Tunisian village of Sidi Bou Said was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The decision was made unanimously.
Sidi Bou Said is a picturesque village perched on a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It originated around the tomb of a Sufi mentor and saint known as Sidi Bou Said, who lived in the 12th–13th centuries.
The architecture and layout of the settlement are in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Over the years, the village has inspired artists, and today it attracts numerous tourists and visitors seeking spiritual peace.
