The revenue of the mobile sector in Zambia increased by 13.9% in 2025

In 2025, Zambia's mobile sector saw significant financial growth, with revenue increasing to 13.2 billion Zambian kwacha (US$693 million), a 13.9% increase from 11.5 billion kwacha (US$604 million) in 2024.
This growth was driven by increased demand for mobile data services, increased adoption of value-added services such as subscription entertainment services, and the growing use of mobile payment platforms.
Operators also benefited from a sharp increase in bulk SMS traffic, which grew by 24.3% to 22.4 billion messages, as businesses and government agencies increasingly utilize SMS for mass communications.
In 2025, the number of active mobile users in Zambia reached 26.2 million, up from 23.2 million the previous year. Mobile penetration increased to 127.4 subscribers per 100 residents, demonstrating the continued expansion of connectivity across the country.
Infrastructure investment also increased, with the total number of telecommunications sites increasing by 8.8% to 15,802. Notably, the number of 5G sites increased by 86.4%, demonstrating operators' continued network modernization.
