The IAEA verifies Rwanda's readiness to develop nuclear energy

Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have arrived in Rwanda to assess the country's readiness to build a nuclear power plant.
According to Aline des Cloizeaux, Director of the IAEA’s Division of Nuclear Power, the comprehensive nuclear infrastructure review mission is designed to identify gaps, offer technical recommendations, and help Rwanda follow a structured process if it decides to pursue nuclear energy.
Earlier, the Rwandan authorities announced that they plan to build the first nuclear power plant in the country by 2030. According to Fidele Ndahayo, Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board (RAEB), Rwanda has already conducted an assessment of the readiness of the energy system and potential sites for nuclear installations.
