The African Energy Bank will start operating in the summer

The Africa Energy Bank (AEB), a pan‑African financial institution championed by the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) in partnership with the African Export‑Import Bank (Afreximbank), will begin operations on July 1, 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria.
Established to finance projects in the energy and oil and gas industries, the bank has an authorized capital of $5 billion. About 45% of this capital was allocated by subscription, with the first contributions from Nigeria, Angola and Ghana made with the assistance of the African Energy Investment Corporation, the investment arm of APPO.
