Tanzania’s fishing sector grew by 6.3%

According to data from the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries of Tanzania, the country’s fishing sector grew by 6.30% in 2025, and the volume of fish production reached 519,454 tons.
The sector’s contribution to GDP reached a record 2.20%, although fish exports in 2025 fell to 45,053 tons, which is 24.59% less than the 59,746 tons exported in 2024.
The value of fishery products produced increased to 4.56 trillion Tanzanian shillings (1.7 billion dollars) in 2025, which is 4.59% more than in 2024 and 157.63% more than in 2018.
Per capita fish consumption increased to 10.2 kg per year in 2025, which is 30.77% more compared to 7.8 kg in 2024, marking the highest figure recorded since 2018.
