Tanzania plans to become the pharmaceutical center of East Africa

Tanzania has launched an ambitious program to develop the National Pharmaceutical Industry in order to reduce dependence on imported medicines and position itself as a manufacturing hub for East Africa.
Within a few years, it is planned to attract significant investments in the industry, modernize production lines, and increase funding for scientific research.
Currently, more than 80 percent of the medicines and medical equipment used in the country are imported, costing Tanzania about one billion dollars a year.
