Tanzania exported record amount of gold

Gold exports from Tanzania reached a record 5.5 billion US dollars as of May 2026, which changed the country's external balance. Revenues from the sale of gold accounted for almost half of the total volume of exports of goods.
Gold is currently central to Tanzania's trading strategy. According to the latest data, gold exports increased by 46.7% over the year to $5.53 billion. The metal accounted for 47.6% of total exports, compared with 38.2% four years earlier.
In the 1st quarter of 2026, the volume of mining in Tanzania reached approximately $1.61 billion, with gold accounting for $1.44 billion, or 89.2% of the total. Coal accounted for 5.2%, graphite – 0.7%, nickel – 0.3%, diamonds and precious stones – less than 1%.
