South Africa to host meeting of Ministers of Transport and Energy
From April 27 to April 30, 2026, Johannesburg, South Africa, will host the 5th session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Transport and Energy, which will be attended by relevant ministers of the African Union countries.
The session will review and adopt strategic decisions on the development of the continental transport network. In addition, the ministers will discuss a ten-year investment plan for Africa's infrastructure.
The African Union has consistently supported the implementation of regional infrastructure initiatives. Strategic transport and energy corridors are being developed, including flagship projects such as the Abidjan-Lagos highway with a length of more than 1,000 kilometers. The number of people who have access to electricity has increased by 120 million people or 10% in 6 years (from 51% in 2017 to more than 61% in 2023).
