South Africa has the freest media in Africa

The World Press Freedom Index for 2026, published on April 30 by Reporters Without Borders, includes a ranking of 180 countries and indicates the working conditions of the media.
According to the rating, among African countries, journalists feel most comfortable in South Africa, which ranks 27th in the world. It is followed by Namibia and Cape Verde. Eritrea remains last in 180th place for the third year in a row.
