Senegal has launched a food sovereignty program

Senegal has launched the Food Sovereignty Support Program (PASS), backed by 150 billion CFA francs (about $261 million) with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
The six-year initiative will cover 10 regions, aiming to boost agricultural production, strengthen value chains, improve market access and increase incomes for family farmers, while enhancing climate resilience.
Currently, Senegal is heavily dependent on food imports. A UNCTAD report published in July 2025 indicated that Senegal imported nearly $1.8 billion worth of agricultural and food products between 2021 and 2023.
