Rosatom to build nuclear power plant in Rwanda

Alexey Likhachev, the head of Rosatom Corporation, speaking at the Congress of the Russian Engineering Union, announced that an agreement had been reached on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Rwanda.
The news about Rosatom's entry into the local market can be called unexpected, because in the corporation's final report for 2025, which indicated the countries where nuclear power plants were planned to be built in the near future, Rwanda was not mentioned.
Nevertheless, this East African country still got on the "map of interests" of the Russian nuclear giant. It is noteworthy that initially the Rwandans turned to the French for services in building the reactor.
