Railway bridge to be restored in Angola

The restoration of the railway bridge over the Cavaco River, destroyed by floods in April this year, should be completed by May 2027. This was announced by the Director of Railway Infrastructure of Lobito Atlantic Railway Albino Ganhana.
The railway bridge connected the cities of Benguela and Lobito, the distance between which is 30 kilometers. As a result of the flood, four of the seven infrastructure spans, which are about 124 meters long, collapsed.
An engineering analysis is currently being carried out to identify the damage and structural deficiencies of the bridge that led to the destruction. Engineers are considering increasing the height of the bridge (the distance between the structure and the water level) to reduce the risks associated with future floods.
