Poultry meat production in Tanzania to grow 2.5 times
Tanzania launched a National Poultry Development Strategy, which aims to increase poultry meat production from 156,000 tons to 380,000 tons per year by 2036, and egg production from 7.1 billion to more than 17 billion.
For these purposes, it is planned to attract investments in the amount of 1.33 billion US dollars, which will be used to strengthen feed production and breeding, as well as to expand product processing and develop new sales markets.
The poultry sector in Tanzania has been developing rapidly in recent years, with the number of chickens in the country growing from 79.1 million in 2019 to more than 108.2 million in 2024/25.
The implementation of the strategy will increase the share of poultry farming in total livestock production from about 30% to 40%, and in the country's GDP from 1.8% to 3%.
