Nigeria's economic growth accelerated to 4.43%

 

 

According to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria's economy showed stronger growth in the second quarter of 2026, growing by 4.43% compared to 3.89% in the first quarter of 2026.

 

The improvement in overall performance was largely driven by higher growth rates in agriculture and services, although the industrial sector recorded slower growth rates than a year earlier.

 

Agriculture grew by 4.39%, which is almost 2 times higher than the 2.82% recorded in the second quarter of 2025. The service sector also strengthened, growing by 4.60% compared to 3.94% in the same period last year. Industry grew by only 3.96% (7.46% in the second quarter of 2025).

 

The service sector retained its position as the largest broad sector of the Nigerian economy, accounting for 56.62% of GDP, slightly higher than a year earlier, when its share was 56.53%.

 

The information and communications sector performed among the highest, growing by 9.62% and increasing its contribution to GDP to 11.74%, compared with 11.18% in the second quarter of 2025.
