Nigeria to lay 90,000 km of fiber

Nigeria has received a $200 million loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group to deploy a 90,000-kilometer fiber-optic network in the country. The total cost of the project is estimated at $ 2 billion.
The initiative aims to expand Nigeria's existing fiber-optic backbone from about 30,000 kilometers to 120,000 kilometers in length, with the aim of connecting all 774 municipal areas to high-speed Internet infrastructure.
It is expected that up to 2.8 million jobs will be created in Nigeria over the life of the project, and the country's broadband penetration rate will increase from about 45% to 70% by 2030.
The initiative will also establish cross-border fiber-optic communication links with neighboring countries, including Benin, Cameroon, Niger and Chad, which will strengthen regional digital integration.
