Nigeria is building Africa's largest rare metal processing plant

A joint delegation from Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Nasarawa State Regional Government visited the Uke rare-earth metals plant to assess technical readiness and compliance with regulatory standards.
Regulatory inspectors confirmed that administrative blocks have been completed and initial testing machinery is being positioned on site. Over the next 12-18 months, it is planned to launch a facility that will be able to process 12,000 tons of rare-earth metals per year.
The Nigerian company Hasetins Commodities Limited started the construction of Africa's largest rare-earth metals plant in late 2025. Here it is planned to produce metals such as tantalum, tungsten, tin, monazite, neodymium and praseodymium, which are necessary for modern high-tech industries. The cost of the project will be $400 million.
