Nigeria invests $1 billion in space
At the International Space Summit in Paris, Nigerian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Kingsley Tochukwe Udeh said that the development of the space industry is a strategic goal of the country.
According to the minister, the space program is aimed at strengthening the country's technological sovereignty, developing local satellite production and improving resource management. Nigeria plans to invest US$ 1 billion in the space sector by the end of the decade.
Nigeria has been actively developing its space sector since the early 2000s. In 2003, the country's first spacecraft, NigeriaSat-1, was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome using a Russian "Cosmos-3M" launch vehicle. In 2011, two more Nigerian satellites were launched from the Russian Yasny cosmodrome.
