Niger launches Biometric ID Card

Niger has officially introduced a biometric national identification card. This initiative is designed to increase the security of official documents, improve the quality of public services and reduce the number of cases of identity fraud using advanced digital systems.
The new identity card is based on biometric technology that collects and combines unique personal data such as fingerprints, facial images, and electronic signatures in accordance with international standards. The authorities claim that the centralized database will provide more reliable identification of citizens and speed up access to public services.
In addition to the physical map, the project includes the creation of a secure national digital infrastructure, including a state-of-the-art data center for centralized government information management and improved coordination between government agencies.
The biometric identity card implementation program is part of a broader digital transformation strategy within the African Union bloc, which includes Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
