New oil field discovered in Namibia

The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) has announced a new offshore oil field. The discovery was made at the Merlin-1X well, which became the tenth well drilled under the PEL39 oil exploration license in the Orange Basin.
According to Namcor spokesman Paulo Coelho, the results are the best of all wells drilled so far under the license. The well showed three qualities: good reservoir quality, light oil and a small amount of associated gas.
Namcor is developing the field jointly with its partners, QatarEnergy and Shell. The PEL39 oil exploration license belongs to companies in different shares: QatarEnergy 45%, Shell 45% and Namcor 10%.
