Namibia launches National Payment System
The Bank of Namibia, in cooperation with the Payment Association of Namibia, presented the National Payment System Development Strategy Vision 2026-2030, aimed at accelerating digital transformation and inclusive economic growth.
The new strategy, presented under the slogan "Inclusive Payments, Shared Prosperity: Charting the Next Era", is a roadmap for modernizing Namibia's payment infrastructure and strengthening its role as a foundation for financial inclusion and innovation.
During the implementation of the previous NPS Vision 2025 program, Namibia has made significant progress in modernizing the payment system: the interoperability of payment channels has been improved, digital payment services have been expanded, open banking systems and NAMQR code standards have been introduced to improve the efficiency and accessibility of payments.
The reforms have contributed to a significant increase in electronic transactions, including card payments, electronic money transfers, and the use of mobile money across the country.
