Milk and meat consumption has increased in Tanzania

Tanzania's Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Bashiru Elli Kakurwa, speaking in the country's parliament, said that annual milk consumption per capita increased from 68.7 liters in 2024/2025 to 70.5 liters in 2025/2026, which is an increase of 2.6%.
Tanzanians also began to eat more meat and eggs. Meat consumption increased from 17.6 kg to 18.4 kg per person per year, while egg consumption increased from 119 to 132 eggs per person per year over the same period.
At the same time as the increased demand, the production of food products in the country increased, and the volume of imports decreased. According to the minister, the reduction in imports and the growth in domestic processing of milk and meat are the result of the government's efforts to improve the investment climate in the country.
