Malawi to create megafarms

The Government of Malawi has unveiled a National Economic Recovery Plan until 2030, which is based on the transition from traditional subsidy programs to the creation of megafarms using modern technologies and developing the processing of their own products.
The strategy provides for the creation of commercial irrigation corridors throughout the country, the promotion of contract farms and the creation of agro-industrial clusters for processing crops such as corn, soybeans, rice and cashews to guarantee sales markets and increase export revenues.
The government hopes that the reforms will help accelerate economic growth to 6.5% by 2030, while reducing inflation and restoring macroeconomic stability. This plan is closely linked to Malawi's long-term development program until 2063, which aims to transform the country into an industrialized economy with an above-average income.
