Madagascar invites investors to the mining industry

Madagascar has lifted a 16-year moratorium on issuing new mining licenses for most minerals, with the exception of gold, where restrictions remain due to regulatory and control issues.
The moratorium has been in effect since 2010 and has limited the flow of investment into the industry, which remains one of the key ones for Madagascar's economy, as exports of nickel, cobalt, graphite and ilmenite bring the country a significant share of income.
The country's key assets are not only nickel and cobalt, but also rare earth metals and precious stones.
The geological study of the island remains low, which leaves room for surprises, up to the discovery of new deposits of uranium or lithium.
