Liberia has submitted an energy development plan

The Liberian Electric Power Corporation has developed a dual-circuit energy strategy that provides for both immediate measures and long-term investments in the country's infrastructure to achieve a generating capacity of 700 megawatts by 2030.

A key element of the short-term response is the construction of a 100 MW thermal power plant, which is expected to be operational within 12 months. The thermal power plant will be able to compensate for expected supply disruptions during the dry season, when hydroelectric power generation is plummeting and power outages are intensifying across the country.

Long-term measures include the construction of a 300 MW gas-fired power plant in Buchanan. The project, worth about $500 million, is being developed in partnership with the American company Tarpeh Global Initiative.

In addition to the Buchanan project, the Government has already launched two major hydropower projects: the St. Paul 2 project with a capacity of about 250 MW and the St. John project with a capacity of 316 MW, implemented with the participation of the private sector.
