Kenya to revive the country's flagship airline

The Kenyan government is preparing to announce an international tender to attract a strategic partner for Kenya Airways. The aim of the tender is to attract from 1.2 to 2 billion dollars for the sustainable development of the airline.
The situation around Kenya Airways is currently ambiguous. On the one hand, the company has accumulated a huge debt of about $489 million. On the other hand, due to the military operation of the United States and Israel against Iran and disruptions in the operation of major Middle Eastern air hubs, Kenya Airways is showing a significant increase in commercial activity. In the first quarter of 2026, the number of passengers increased by a third, and traffic volumes increased by 250% compared to the same period last year.
