Kenya invites electricity sellers

The Kenyan government has introduced new rules to allow private companies to sell electricity in the country. The changes are aimed at improving the efficiency of energy supply.
Electricity trading in Kenya will be carried out through bilateral contracts, spot markets and forward contracts. All market participants will be required to provide guarantees for the fulfillment of obligations in accordance with the instructions of the system operator.
The rules also provide for the coordinated operation of systems between countries whose energy systems are connected to Kenya or integrated into the Eastern Africa Power Pool.
