Kenya and Tanzania remove trade barriers

Kenyan President William Ruto and his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional integration by ordering the removal of all non-tariff barriers to trade between countries by the end of May 2026.
Non-tariff barriers such as customs delays, legislative inconsistencies, and administrative problems have long been considered major barriers to trade in the East African Community. Their abolition is expected to significantly reduce the cost of doing business and accelerate the movement of goods and services across borders.
