Guinea will become a global supplier of iron ore

Guinea continues to develop a large deposit of high-quality iron ore, which is located in the southern part of the 110-kilometer Simandou mountain range. The iron content in the ore mined here is close to 65%, which makes it very attractive to steel companies.
Currently, the Simandou complex consists of four mining blocks. The first cargo from the field was shipped to the buyer at the end of 2025. According to forecasts, ore exports will range from 15-20 million tons in 2026, increase to 40-50 million tons in 2027, and later reach 120 million tons.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, global iron ore production totaled 2.6 billion tons in 2025. Australia leads the way with 980 million tons, followed by Brazil with 420 million tons, India with 310 million tons and China with 290 million tons.
