Ghana to transport natural gas on its own ships

During a 5-day visit to the Republic of Korea, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama received the Asharami Ghana vessel, designed to transport liquefied natural gas, into the merchant fleet.
Speaking at the ship's commissioning ceremony, President Mahama called this event an important step towards strengthening the energy security of Ghana and the entire region and stressed that the share of natural gas in Africa's energy mix will grow, replacing traditional fuels such as charcoal, firewood and kerosene.
According to the President, Ghana currently supplies about 50% of its liquefied natural gas needs through local production, while importing the remaining 50%.
