Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire to set cocoa price

Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama and Côte d'Ivoire's President Alassane Ouattara held a meeting during which a cocoa production cooperation agreement was signed. The two countries account for 60% of cocoa bean production.
The parties agreed to process significant amounts of cocoa locally, stimulating local and regional consumption, and develop the sector in a way that prioritizes farmers' interests.
Following the meeting of the presidents, it was announced the creation of an Initiative for the development of Cocoa production, within which it is planned to coordinate marketing and pricing conditions for producers, introduce a product quality control system, and establish cooperation between research institutes.
