Gambia to build new roads in rural areas
Gambian President Adam Barrow has launched a $25 million project to build more than 75 kilometers of modern roads in the North Bank region.
The 75 km section is the 1st stage of a larger network with a length of 204.7 km, the construction of which will be completed within 2 years. As a result of the project, several dozen rural settlements will be connected by high-quality roads.
According to officials, poor road infrastructure has long limited farmers' ability to transport produce, leading to crop losses and low incomes in rural communities. The construction of new transport infrastructure will not only increase farmers' incomes, but also improve public access to healthcare and education.
The project is being implemented by the Chinese construction company Chino Gam under the leadership of the Pace and Ceetech Joint Venture.
