Fitch confirms Tanzania's B+ rating

Fitch Ratings has changed the outlook on Tanzania's rating from "stable" to "positive", confirming the sovereign rating at B+.
According to the rating company, the positive outlook reflects expectations of strengthening international reserves, a moderate budget deficit and continued economic growth, which together will contribute to a gradual reduction in government debt.
Fitch forecasts Tanzania's gross domestic product (GDP) to grow by 5.8% in 2026 and an average of 6.1% in 2027-2028, driven by government investment, tourism, the mining sector, and the country's role as a regional logistics hub.
Fitch also notes improvements in Tanzania's macroeconomic policy from 2023, including measures to strengthen central bank independence, exchange rate flexibility, and currency management.
