Ethiopia plans to provide all residents with electricity by 2035

The Ethiopian Ministry of Water and Energy has discussed the new National Electrification Program (NEP 3.0) with government agencies, the private sector, and international organizations. The discussions aimed at charting a roadmap toward achieving universal access to reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity by 2035.
The new energy program will use advanced geospatial planning to determine the most efficient combination of renewable energy systems. It will also focus on forecasting demand, planning investments, and identifying the most effective electrification projects.
According to the World Bank, only about 65% of Ethiopians had access to electricity in 2025, despite significant improvements due to the construction of new hydroelectric, wind, solar, and geothermal power plants.
