Ethiopia plans to produce laptops

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced plans to establish local production of laptops and tablets as part of a large-scale program to achieve technological independence.
The production of computer equipment will contribute to the development of education, public administration and the widespread adoption of digital technologies, as well as create opportunities for the development of various segments of the value chain, including manufacturing and sourcing of components, logistics, software integration etc.
Ethiopia has already established itself as a hub for manufacturing in industries such as textiles, clothing, and light manufacturing. The development of technological manufacturing will be a natural extension of efforts to diversify exports and strengthen industrial capacity.
