Ethiopia expands provision of telecommunication services

Ethiopia's state-owned telecommunications corporation Ethio Telecom has unveiled its business plan for fiscal year 2026/27, which forecasts revenue growth of almost $2 billion, up 36.7% from the previous year.
Ethio Telecom plans to increase the total mobile network capacity from 115.1 million to 135.7 million subscribers, increase 4G network coverage from 82.23% to 95% and double the number of cities covered by the 5G network (from 33 to 73).
An important component of the plan is the Internet connection of 1,400 rural settlements with a population of about 4.5 million people. The company also plans to promote affordable smartphones and digital literacy to help low-income families make greater use of digital services.
Ethio Telecom plans to launch 312 new and improved products and services during the fiscal year. They will cover consumer internet connectivity, financial technologies, digital lifestyle services, corporate solutions, and international business.
