Electricity to every village

The ECOWAS Joint Committee on Energy and Mines, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources held a meeting in Dakar, Senegal, where it was decided to intensify the electrification of rural areas in West Africa.
The meeting, which was held under the theme "Harnessing Renewable Energy for Rural Electrification and the Revitalisation of Rural Economies in the ECOWAS Region," agreed on the widespread implementation of decentralized energy solutions, such as mini-grids and off-grid energy systems.
The rural electrification program will be an important component of the ECOWAS Vision 2050 concept and should affect all rural communities in West Africa. As stated during the meeting, no rural community in the region will be left behind in the energy transition.
