Egypt is Africa's leader in startups

According to TechCabal Insights, in the first quarter of 2026, African startups raised $711 million through more than 80 deals. About 18% of the transactions had undisclosed value.
Egyptian startups attracted investments of $ 154 million, followed by South Africa ($134 million). Kenya and Nigeria rounded out the top four capital markets.
Fintech remained the largest sector with $221 million in financing, followed by energy and water supply ($141 million). Logistics and transport attracted $149 million, which demonstrates the continued attention of investors to infrastructure and financial services.
