Economic growth in Africa reached 4.2% in 2025

The African Development Bank (AfDB) published the report "Africa’s Macroeconomic Performance and Outlook 2026", in which it estimated the growth of the continent's economy in 2025 at 4.2%, which is 0.7% more than a year earlier.
In addition to the general trend, the report highlights the contrasting regional dynamics. East Africa remains the most dynamic region, with economic growth estimated at 6.4% in 2025. The rest of Africa performed the worst: West Africa – 4.7%, North Africa – 4.1%, Central Africa – 3.9%, South Africa – 2.0%.
The medium-term outlook remains positive. The AfDB forecasts the growth of the African economy at 4.3% in 2026 and 4.5% in 2027, driven by private consumption, softening monetary conditions and increased external demand for African goods.
