Chinese investment in Africa increased by 254%

Chinese investments in Africa under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) reached $33.5 billion in the first half of 2026, an increase of 254% over the same period in 2025.
Africa attracted 67.24% of global Chinese investment in the BRI project, with Ethiopia and Egypt leading the way on the continent ($18.9 billion and $9.7 billion, respectively).
In addition to direct investments, in the first half of 2026, Chinese companies signed construction contracts in Africa worth $13.49 billion (17.64% of the value of all foreign construction deals concluded by Chinese companies during this period).
