China cancels duties on African goods

The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, confirmed that the zero tariff policy for African goods shipped to China will take effect on May 1, 2026.
The Envoy said this while delivering a speech during the official handover ceremony of the newly constructed headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja.
In his speech, Dr. Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, thanked the Chinese government for its zero-tariff policy, adding that this would make Chinese markets accessible to a variety of African goods and would help create new jobs and increase trade between China and Africa.
